TRANSLATION GUIDE

If you want, you can help translate UFM project into your own language. Remember that you need time, experience and a lot of patience. However, if you are determined enough just let me know and start your translation. All translation information can be found in this document. When you are done, send me the files.

Before you start UFM translation please read below translation rules:

I hope I wrote most important info. You can use any translation tool, even auto-translators (like Google Translator). THIS IS VERY HELPFULL AND SPEED UP TRANSLATION. HOWEVER - YOU HAVE TO CHECK EVERY LINE OF MACHINE TRANSLATED TEXT. Final translation must be done by human native speaker (which guarantees correct syntax and grammar)! Thank you for your contribution. Thank you for your time!

As I wrote before, UFM supports multi-language interface. There are some languages ​​that are fully supported (so called Official UFM Languages) and some that are only partially supported - these are the languages ​​that need your attention!

All languages not mentioned here are NOT supported (as these languages are not supported by UFM File Managers)!

Ultimate File Manager language files (for all supported languages) are stored in LANG directory. As we know, Ultimate File Manager can be installed as Portable Installation and Standard Installation. So, here are default locations for each installation type:

This directory also contains UFM Translation Manager data files (application is installed into UFM root directory). UFM translation files can be divided into the following groups:

• UFM INSTALLER
  

  This group contains 5 translation files located in \UFM\LANG\INSTALLER directory.

  • Installer - UFM Installer/Uninstaller translation files (\UFM\LANG\INSTALLER\INSTALLER\*.ini)
  • License - UFM Licenses translation files (\UFM\LANG\INSTALLER\LICENSE\*.ini)
  • File Manager - UFM File Managers translation files (\UFM\LANG\INSTALLER\FILE MANAGER\*.ini)
  • Plugins - UFM Plugins (Total Commander) translation files (\UFM\LANG\INSTALLER\PLUGINS\*.ini)
  • Apps - UFM Internal Applications translation files (\UFM\LANG\INSTALLER\APPS\*.ini)


• UFM APPLICATIONS
  

  This group contains 13 translation files located in \UFM\LANG\APPS) directory.

  • UFM App Manager Internal Application translation files (\UFM\LANG\APPS\UFM App Manager\*.ini)
    
    UFM App Manager allows you to Open (F3 key) or Edit (F4 key) files with a specific extension (file type) in the selected application (previously defined by the user). You can also open files/directories using Windows Shell (Files Explorer) with UFM Shell Extension Library.
  • UFM Clipboard Manager Internal Application translation files (\UFM\LANG\APPS\UFM Clipboard Manager\*.ini)
    
    UFM Clipboard Manager allows you to manage Windows Clipboard data. The Clipboard is a temporary storage area for data (text, images, etc) that is being transferred from one location to another. It is typically used for copying and pasting information between different applications.
  • UFM Directory Manager Internal Application translation files (\UFM\LANG\APPS\UFM Directory Manager\*.ini)
    
    UFM Directory Manager allows you to create files and directories in Total Commander. It is very simple and easy to use. Press F7 key in TC to create file or directory in source panel (SHIFT+F4 for files) or press SHIFT+F7 to create it in target panel.
  • UFM Hash Manager Internal Application translation files (\UFM\LANG\APPS\UFM Hash Manager\*.ini)
    
    UFM Hash Manager allows you to generate Hash/Checksum values based on a string or file using many different algorithms. Hash is a mathematical function that converts an input of arbitrary length into an encrypted output of a fixed length. Checksum is a calculated value that is used to determine the integrity of data.
  • UFM Lang Switcher Internal Application translation files (\UFM\LANG\APPS\UFM Lang Switcher\*.ini)
    
    UFM Lang Switcher allows you to set language for current File Manager (you can use one of many supported languages)
  • UFM Launcher Internal Application translation files (\UFM\LANG\APPS\UFM Launcher\*.ini)
    
    UFM Launcher allows you to run chosen File Manager with specified configuration files and settings. You can also check for updates, display personalized data on File Manager titlebar and many more.
  • UFM Power Internal Application translation files (\UFM\LANG\APPS\UFM Power\*.ini)
    
    UFM Power allows you to perform (via File Manager menu) the followig power actions: Log Off, Reboot, Shut Down, Power Off, Standby, Hibernate, Lock Workstation and Turn Off Monitor.
  • UFM Settings Internal Application translation files (\UFM\LANG\APPS\UFM Settings\*.ini)
    
    UFM Settings allows you to configure Ultimate File Manager project. Thanks to this simple and intuitive application you can customize chosen file manager, change display language, configure all UFM applications and so on.
  • UFM Shell Integration Internal Application translation files (\UFM\LANG\APPS\UFM Shell Integration\*.ini)
    
    UFM Shell Integration allows you to integrate Ultimate File Manager with Windows. You can integrate UFM with Windows Shell, add it to Windows AutoRun, use AutoPlay functionality, create Start Menu/Taskbar, apps shortcuts or make file associations.
  • UFM System Information Internal Application translation files (\UFM\LANG\APPS\UFM System Information\*.ini)
    
    UFM System Information allows you to provide basic information about your computer in an accessible way. Program displays basic system information and all relevant hardware and software information.
  • UFM System Manager Internal Application translation files (\UFM\LANG\APPS\UFM System Manager\*.ini)
    
    UFM System Manager allows you to run tools and services of the Windows operating system and selected utilities from external vendors.
  • UFM Time Manager Internal Application translation files (\UFM\LANG\APPS\UFM Time Manager\*.ini)
    
    UFM Time Manager allows you to instantly change Date and Time of multiple files by a specific value (Creation/Last Write/Last Access). Just select files in left (or right) panel of your File Manager or in both panels at the same time.
  • UFM Updater Internal Application translation files (\UFM\LANG\APPS\UFM Updater\*.ini)
    
    UFM Updater allows you to check for Ultimate File Manager update. UFM Updater propmts the user if a new version is available and allows to download and install it.

UFM translation file is a simple text file with INI extension. INI file is a configuration file for computer software that consists of plain text with a structure and syntax comprising key–value pairs organized in sections. INI files format is great for language files. It is human-readable and simple to parse - ideal for files that do not require much greater complexity.

Each UFM language file contains Header Text (description) and Data Text (in the form of multiple sections with key–value pairs). Header text contains basic information about the language file and the project. Here is an example:

As you can see, the most important information about the language file is presented here - Project name, project author, license, language information, last update date information and translator information. You can also find out about the file format and some basic translation rules (differ slightly for Installer Files and Internal applications translation files).

The rest of file consists the most important language data (grouped in Sections), in the following format:

Key-value pairs are grouped under a Section. Section name appears on a line by itself, enclosed in square brackets ([ and ]), and applies to all key-value pairs on subsequent lines until another section is declared.

Data in INI is held in Key-Value pairs called key or property. Key may thus either refer to the entire key-value pair or only its key. A value is also called property name. In its textual representation, the key-value pair is represented by either a line or a multiline where the start of the value is indicated by a delimiter - an equals sign (=). The key's key appears to the left of the delimiter, is often non-empty and should not contain the delimiter. Some flavours allow escape sequences in the value.

Equals sign = (delimiter) and semicolon sign ; (comment) are reserved characters and cannot appear in the key. Any whitespace surrounding the key is stripped by the parser. The value can contain any character.

Here is a real example of Key-value pairs in UFM translation file:

This simple example shows everything you have to know. There is a Comment (; About Dialog Text), there is a Section (ABOUT) and Key-Value pair. Key is About_1 and Value is Information.... You just need to translate Value text. Remember! Simple rule - you can modify ONLY Values text (after „=”).

Finally, there are a few more elements of the language file worth mentioning:

To help you in translation I have created special tool - UFM Translation Manager (TranslationManager.exe) that helps you translating UFM project into your language. It allows you to manage your translation files and imediately test it (to see your changes in real applications).

Here is UFM Translation Manager main window. The window is divided into 3 areas.

As you can see, this guide is based on example German Language. German language is not supported for now - translation is required. If you install UFM with German language and open UFM Translation Tool you will see that German Language is set. Only one button is active.

To start your translation you have to fill some information about You. Please, enter your name and E-Mail address. It is required! You can also enter your website, if you have one. Providing such information allows you to generate all translation files for chosen language. To generate translation files click the button:

German language files (our example language) should be created. If you forget to provide translator info, you will see a message.

Providing correct Translator data generates all translation files for chosen language. This is the begining of translation process. As you can see, application interface has changed a bit.

First of all, there is a new button that allows you to translate your newly generated files. The name of the button says it all. Clicking the button gives you access to special page (described below) with all translation files.

Below the button there is a progressbar and text with some interesting data. This data shows Total Progress of your Translation. The following information are displayed:

Please treat this information only as an overview that will allow you to quickly get an idea of ​​the translation progress.

Note: There will never be showed 100% of translated lines here (even if you finish your translation). This is because, some strings will be the same for English (base) and your language (for example: MiB).

Finally, there are few buttons that lets you test most of your translation lines. Each button provides special page with proper options. You can always return to main interface using the Back button in the footer area.

You can test your translation at any time. You can see your text "live" in the application (or installer) and verify its correctness. You can check if the text is not too long, if it is not cut off. You can verify if the text fits the context, if there are no errors, etc...

This page lists all UFM translation files (divided into two groups). This is your files - these are the files you need to translate! Each group of translation files consists of few files.

First group defines UFM Installer/File Manager Translation Files. There are 5 files (UFM Installer Translation File, UFM License Translation File, UFM External Applications Translation File, UFM File Manager Translation File, Total Commander Plugins Translation File).

Second group defines UFM Internal Applications Translation Files. There are 13 files (UFM Launcher, UFM Settings, UFM Shell Integration, UFM Updater, UFM System Information, UFM System Manager, UFM Time Manager, UFM Clipboard Manager, UFM App Manager, UFM Hash Manager, UFM Directory Manager, UFM Lang Switcher, UFM Power).

You can open chosen file (using OPEN TRANSLATION FILE button) in your favourite text editor and see basic information about the file (file description, file type, file size, file encoding and file status - number of lines and words (with special words) to translate and approximate lines already translated). You can also open all of them at once (using OPEN ALL UFM TRANSLATION FILES AT ONCE button).

You can return to main interface using the Back button in the footer area.

You are translating UFM. You are my hero! Uff... Hard work... But, don't worry, I can help you a bit. You can preview your translated text "live" thanks to the Interface Testing Modules. You can check most of UFM Installer Interface and all UFM Internal Applications. Unfortunately, it is impossible to verify every line - but most of the text that user has direct contact. I hope, this really help make your translation even better. I want to be sure that everything is perfect! You have to be sure that there are no issues, that your translated text is not cut off, that everything fits (in control, window), and what is most important - translation is understandable to the user. There are few options. Let's take a look at them.

• TEST UFM INSTALLER TRANSLATION INTERFACE

Ultimate File Manager is designed for Microsoft Windows platform and is distributed to the end user as simple and intuitive Installer. It allows you to select the appropriate File Manager, applications and plugins at the installation stage. It is easy thanks to detailed description of each component and intuitive interface. Installer copies all required files and configures the system properly (you can use both Standard and Portable installation).

The basic idea of running the installer in Translator Mode is to check whether the translated text is understandable and whether the user interface is displayed correctly. Usually, it is enough to check that all texts are displayed correctly. The goal is to create a translation that is as understandable as possible for the user. Each option should precisely indicate what it is for and what it does. Of course, the text must fit the control or window. You can click every control, check every page.

You can test (preview) UFM Installer User Interface. There are two types of Installer that you can test (it differs slightly) - UFM (Basic) - designed for most users with basic external applications and UFM MEGAPack - designed for advanced user with many external applications. Just change below option to test chosen one:

You can also test UFM Components Installation. The following options are available:

• TEST UFM UNINSTALLER TRANSLATION INTERFACE

Ultimate File Manager can be installed on user disk as Portable Installation (no uninstallation needed) or Standard Installation (uninstallation required). Using Standard Installation means integration with Windows Operating System. UFM Uninstaller is designed to remove existing UFM installation from your computer.

The primary goal of UFM Uninstaller is to remove previously installed software along with all of its files from your computer system. However, this means not only removing program files, but also removing registry entries, shortcuts, and any other leftovers. This ensures complete and clean removal of the program (unlike manual software removal, which is also possible, but difficult and inconvenient). Uninstallation process is really easy and fast.

The basic idea of running the Uninstaller in Translator Mode is to check whether the translated text is understandable and whether the user interface is displayed correctly. Usually, it is enough to check that all texts are displayed correctly. The goal is to create a translation that is as understandable as possible for the user. Each option should precisely indicate what it is for and what it does. Of course, the text must fit the control or window. You can click every control, check every page.

• TEST UFM LANGUAGE DIALOG TRANSLATION INTERFACE

Ultimate File Manager supports multi-language interface. All languages ​​​​of Total Commander and Multi Commander File Managers are supported, but only a few of them are fully translated and therefore official. The default languages ​​are Polish (native) and English. UFM Installer allows you to choose language you want to use in installation/uninstallation and installed File Manager.

UFM Language Selection Dialog allows you to select your language. It is the first window we see after starting UFM Installer (UFM Uninstaller uses already defined language). Language selection dialog will always appear in Portable Installation, while in Standard Installation it will only appear during the first installation (every other installation (Update Mode) will use language defined in previous installation).

The basic idea of running UFM Language Selection Dialog in Translator Mode is to check whether the translated text is understandable and whether the user interface is displayed correctly. Usually, it is enough to check that all texts are displayed correctly. The goal is to create a translation that is as understandable as possible for the user. Each option should precisely indicate what it is for and what it does. Of course, the text must fit the control or window. You can click every control.

You can test (preview) UFM Language Selection Dialog User Interface. There are two types of Installer that you can test (it differs slightly) - UFM (Basic) - designed for most users with basic external applications and UFM MEGAPack - designed for advanced user with many external applications. As I mentioned before, UFM support many languages, but only few of them are fully translated. Your language is still in translation... So, it is not official yet. UFM Language Selection Dialog will display interface for none-official language. Therefore, you can change it using below option:

This way you can test Language Selection Dialog in detail.

Note: Running UFM Language Selection Dialog in Translator Mode is just a simulation. NO LANGUAGE IS CHANGED. You can click whatever you want - it is just user interface test. You can return to main interface using the Back button in the footer area.

• TEST UFM FILE MANAGER TRANSLATION INTERFACE

Ultimate File Manager is the best File Manager for Windows. It supports well-known and respected Total Commander and its free alternative Multi Commander. You can test interface translation for both of them (menu entries, button bar entries, quick directory menu, custom columns, custom views, etc) - everything user interact with.

To make it happen, just hit the button for Total Commander or Multi Commander. You will run File Manager with your newly generated translation files. Some parts of File Manager interface is already translated to your language, as it uses internal File Manager language.

Remember, that each time you run File Manager in Translator Mode you will generate new translation files for File Manager Menu and Button Bars. Old files are overwritten!

If you find invalid translation, cutted text (to long text) or whatever that need to be fixed you have to do the following:

Note: Running UFM File Manager (Total Commander or Multi Commander) in Translator Mode is NOT just only interface test - it is normal running of File Manager. Every change will be written, every copied file will be copied, and deleted one will be deleted. EACH TIME YOU RUN THE TEST, NEW MENU AND BUTTON BAR FILES WILL BE CREATED! New files are generated for your language (old File Manager language files are overwritten!) - UFM Installer do the same during every installation. You can click whatever you want, but remember you operate on normal File Manager (it is recommanded to make translation test on other copy of File Manager). You can return to main interface using the Back button in the footer area.

• TEST UFM INTERNAL APPLICATIONS TRANSLATION INTERFACE

UFM is not just a File Manager. UFM is a package that extends the functionality of File Manager, distributed with Internal Applications and carefully selected and configured free external applications. Thanks to their appropriate configuration and their appropriate selection, they perform the most important functions and ensure the execution of all tasks. Managing all files and applications is even simpler and more efficient.

You can choose from list an Internal Application you want to run and test (preview) User Interface translation. Some basic information is available for selected application. Some applications provide configuration options (for now, only UFM Updater application). To run chosen application, just select application on the list and hit the TEST APPLICATION INTERFACE TRANSLATION button.

As I mentioned before, some of Internal Applications provide special configuration options. UFM Updater application is the one. You can simulate different situations to be able to test different working asspects. You can choose one of:

Note: Running UFM Internal Application in Translator Mode is NOT just only interface test. You can click whatever you want, test every program action - but remember - you run this application on your operating system as you normally would. So, if you create a file, it will be created. If you delete a file, it will be deleted (for example).
